“Chromo-Natural Inflation, Higgsed and un-Higgsed”

Abstract:

When classical non-Abelian fields can interact with the inflaton, inflation can proceed on a steep potential. This theory of inflation is able to generate large quantities of chiral gravitational waves without any fields traversing super-Planckian field distances. In this talk, I will outline how this all works, and introduce the rich and complex physics of non-Abelian fields interacting a non-trivial cosmological background configuration. Experience ISCAP seminar goers may note that this talk is a sequel to a closely related seminar given by Peter Adshead in April 2012; there have been many new developments since then!
